The Dave Valentine Award for Scotland Senior Team Player of the Year 2009 goes to centre Mick Nanyn, as chosen by Scotland Head Coach Steve McCormack. Mick was magnificent throughout the rugbyleague.com European Cup campaign, smashing points-scoring records galore as he scored 16 goals and two tries against Italy, then a further five goals against Lebanon before an amazing first half hat-trick of tries in the final against Wales, a game in which he did not take kicks at goal due to an injured hamstring. His performances for Scotland in the autumn were all the more remarkably given Mick had failed to make a single first team appearance for Harlequins RL all season and has since signed for Leigh Centurions. The David Rose Award for Scotland ‘A’ Team Player of the Year is shared between last year’s winner – Edinburgh Eagles prop John Cox – and winger Dave Arnot, who has recently signed for London Skolars from Harlequins RL. Both earned call-ups to the full squad with their displays last summer for the A team. The Roy Kinnear Award for Scotland Students Player of the Year goes to back row forward Mike Scott, a teenage farmer from Dumfries & Galloway College, who excelled in the Home Nations Championships and has spent time at Workington Town. Keighley Cougar Ashley Honeyman and Gateshead Storm’s Josh Stoker shared the Graeme Thompson Award for their displays at centre and second row for Scotland Under-18s. The Nathan Graham Award for the outstanding display for Scotland Under-16s goes to David Scott from Ayr, who was voted one of the players of the tournament sat the European Championships. |
